72hr Urban Action Derry 2013

72Hr Urban Action is coming to Derry this year. This is the worlds first real-time architectural competition.

During 3 days and 3 nights 10 teams will live, sleep, party and design a project for sites around the city that have been neglected. The main areas consist of the Bogside, Fountain and Brandywell. These unrealised areas will act as communal spaces. These areas will benefit immensely from this type of project as it will be a chance for the community to come together and make their space more interesting.

The first 72hr Urban Action took place at the Bat-Yam Biennale in September 2010. It attracted participants from 20 nationalities and major press cover.

Urban Action is a design practice that involves residents, decision makers and professionals. It encourages experimentation and creative thinking to redesign an area in a public place.

Together these participants  worth to extreme deadlines and tight budgets but what they create has to be quite awesome. Below is a image of the winners of the Germany 72hr Urban Action that took place in July 2012.
